Di Longworth private midwife in Hunter region NSW

I am an endorsed midwife providing private midwifery services including Homebirth, on Awabakal, Worimi and Wonnarua country (Lake Macquarie, Newcastle, Port Stephens, and Hunter Valley).

More about me

I have been a midwife for 25 years, and my philosophy is that birth is a normal life event, that should be viewed in a wellness paradigm. I believe that “safety” is a holistic concept that considers not only the physical, but also the spiritual, cultural and psychological realms. Working within a system that harms women doesn’t align with my beliefs of birth as a sacred journey, unique to each family.

I am experienced in caring for women in their homes and have extensive experience in attending women who are birthing in water. I’ve practiced primarily in women centered, midwifery models of care across rural, remote, and regional settings in NSW and Qld. I have advanced midwifery skills and training in obstetric and neonatal emergency management, IV cannulation and perineal suturing.

Family centered, personalised care.

After 12 years away from homebirth I have discovered more and more women are emerging damaged, physically and psychologically, from the ‘cookie cutter’ medical model of care.

Valley Births has been created to provide expert midwifery care, in your home, to facilitate your wishes for your birth journey, with evidence informed care.

How I care for you.

I practice within a partnership model of care where Information, evidence and your wishes are shared and a plan of care developed. Partnership is based on a relationship of trust, shared decision making and responsibility, negotiation and shared understanding. Evidence informed care assists you to make the right choice for you and your baby. I utilise the Australian College of Midwives Guidelines for Consultation and Referral and aim to discuss with you, any developments during pregnancy and birth that may benefit from the advice of an Obstetrician or other medical specialist in order to safely care for you and your baby. I am insured by MIGA and am fully covered for pregnancy and postnatal care. Medicare rebates are available for Antenatal and postnatal care.

I provide my community with an alternate model of care, tailored to their needs, whilst remaining a safe alternative to the medical model of care.
